When my in-laws moved to North Carolina, I wanted to make them an NC-themed housewarming gift. This is how the Bear Glass was born.
It is my favorite image to etch. Etching by hand allows me to make the fill area look like hair because of the individual cuts.
The body and outline are done with a small diamond bit. As it is a black bear, the muzzle area is done with a white stone bit that doesn't cut as deep to indicate a color change.

Over the years, I've received requests for other motifs and have since added designs such as the sea turtle, palm leaf, sea horse, magnolia, pine trees, a racehorse with jockey (for a Kentucky Derby order), and many more.
